A middle-sized, prickly tree with distinctly orange, corky bark and an irregular crown. It is an arresting sight in flower, with clusters of bright-scarlet flowers presented at the ends of its branchlets. Native to dry, mixed dry deciduous forests throughout India, it also ranges eastwards into SE Asia. Not very common in Rajasthan.

March - Mayगधा पलाश एक मध्यम आकार का पर्णपाती वृक्ष है, जिसकी पहचान इसकी मोटी, कॉर्क जैसी मटमेली-भूरी सफेद छाल तथा कांटेदार शाखाओं से होती है। पुष्पन काल में यह वृक्ष अत्यंत आकर्षक दिखाई देता है, जब इसकी पत्ती रहित शाखाओं के सिरों पर चमकीले लाल-स्कारलेट रंग के पुष्पों के गुच्छे खिलते हैं। ये पुष्प मधुरस से भरपूर होते हैं और पक्षियों तथा विभिन्न परागणकर्ताओं को आकर्षित करते हैं।
यह प्रजाति भारत के शुष्क एवं मिश्रित पर्णपाती वनों की मूल निवासी है तथा इसका वितरण दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया तक फैला हुआ है। राजस्थान में यह अपेक्षाकृत दुर्लभ मानी जाती है। शुष्क मौसम में पुष्पित होने के कारण यह स्थानीय जैव विविधता के लिए महत्त्वपूर्ण है और अनेक पक्षियों एवं कीटों को भोजन का स्रोत प्रदान करती है।PC: Noopur Soni, Om prakash bairwa & Sonu kumar
