Ficus virens is a large deciduous to semi-evergreen tree with a broad, spreading crown and smooth grey bark. It is easily recognized by its young leaves, which emerge in striking shades of pink, copper, or reddish-bronze before turning bright green. The leaves are simple, ovate to elliptic, and leathery. Like other fig trees, its tiny flowers are enclosed inside a fleshy structure called a syconium, which develops into small figs that turn green to white when ripe.
