Medium-sized evergreen tree, usually growing 10–20 m tall. It is easily recognized by its dense, drooping crown, smooth grey bark, and simple, glossy, lance-shaped leaves with wavy margins. The tree bears small greenish-yellow flowers, followed by yellow to orange, oval drupes containing a hard seed.
यह भारत तथा दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया का मूल निवासी वृक्ष है और सदाबहार तथा आर्द्र पर्णपाती वनों में पाया जाता है। इसे छायादार एवं सजावटी वृक्ष के रूप में भी व्यापक रूप से लगाया जाता है।
