  • A medium-sized, fast-growing deciduous tree with a broad, rounded crown and greyish-brown bark. It is easily identified by its simple, alternate, ovate leaves with serrated margins, which vary in shape on the same tree. The tree bears small greenish flowers in catkin-like spikes, followed by sweet, fleshy fruits that change from green to white, pink, red, or purplish-black when ripe.
