  • Moderate-sized or small deciduous tree, up to 10 m tall; tender parts hirsute-pubescent; bark white or pale grey. Leaves unsymmetric, ovate or ovate-oblong, 8-18 x 5-8 cm, apically obtuse or obtusely acute, basally cuneate, margin entire, sparsely hirsute above, thinly pubescent below; petiole up to 1.5 cm long. Flowers white, scented, in terminal, unilateral cymes; peduncle up to 4 cm long; calyx lobes 5, lanceolate, 2.5 mm, thick-herbaceous, thinly pubescent without, corolla white, lobes 5, broadly oblong, obtuse; stamens 5, filaments 5 mm, anthers 1.5 mm; ovary globose, style divided from near the middle. Drupe globose with 4 pyrenes, red when ripe.
    Habitat; Common in deciduous forests.
