  • Bauhinia variegata is a medium-sized deciduous tree, usually growing 6–12 m tall. It is easily recognized by its camel's-foot-shaped bilobed leaves and large, fragrant white, pink, or purple orchid-like flowers that bloom before the new leaves appear. It is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia and is commonly found in dry deciduous forests, open woodlands, and cultivated landscapes.

    इसकी फूलों की कलियाँ, फूल और कोमल फलियाँ सब्जी के रूप में खाई जाती हैं। इसकी छाल का उपयोग पारंपरिक औषधियों में तथा वृक्ष का उपयोग सजावटी पौधे के रूप में किया जाता है।
    नाम की उत्पत्ति: Bauhinia नाम स्विस वनस्पतिशास्त्री भाइयों Johann और Gaspard Bauhin के सम्मान में रखा गया है, जबकि variegata का अर्थ "विभिन्न रंगों वाला" है।
