The leaves are alternate, pinnately compound, with numerous serrated leaflets. The tree bears small, fragrant, white flowers in drooping panicles during March to May, followed by smooth, ellipsoid drupes that turn yellow when ripe. Native to the Indian subcontinent, neem is widely distributed in dry deciduous forests, villages, farmlands, and urban areas.
