Habit
→ Small to medium sized, evergreen tree
→ Dense, spreading crown
2. Bark
→ Brown, rough
→ Distinct horizontal lenticels visible
3. Leaves
→ Paripinnate (feather-compound)
→ 3–6 pairs of narrow, lance-shaped leaflets
→ Upper surface glossy, lower dull
→ Young leaves: drooping, soft pink to coppery (very distinctive)
4. Flowers
→ In dense clusters directly on branches (cauliflorous tendency)
→ Bright orange to red
→ No true petals (color from bracts & stamens)
→ Long, prominent stamens
5. Fruit
→ Flat, slightly curved pod
→ Up to ~20–25 cm long
→ Green/reddish when young, turning dark/black on maturity
