A medium-sized evergreen tree, usually growing 10–20 m tall. It is easily recognized by its long, narrow, willow-like leaves, smooth grey bark, and dense crown. The tree produces small, creamy-white fragrant flowers in clusters, followed by small purple to black fleshy berries when ripe.
यह भारत के पश्चिमी घाट और श्रीलंका का मूल निवासी वृक्ष है तथा सदाबहार एवं अर्ध-सदाबहार वनों, विशेषकर नदियों और नम घाटियों के किनारे पाया जाता है। इसके फल पक्षियों एवं अन्य वन्यजीवों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण भोजन का स्रोत हैं और यह वन पारिस्थितिकी में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है। -
